Salt + Light = Congruence

“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”  — Jesus of Nazareth

If you do an Internet search on the phrase “salt of the earth,” you’ll turn up dozens of different references and many different interpretations of its meaning.

Jesus of Nazareth spoke of congruence, of being your essential self. He said, “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, how can it become salty again?” What a profound statement — so easy to hear, yet its power resounds in the heart.

Be who you are: The essential, grounded, joyful you!

You are the light of the world. Let your light shine naturally, without hiding it or unnaturally projecting it. You can hear the truth of it in your heart, in this Creative Moment.

So, as you move into the week, be who you are in each moment, letting your light shine without embarrassment or fear.

Exercise

As you walk through the week, being the salt of the earth and letting your light shine, bring your attention to the habits of mind that tell you otherwise. What does your mind tell you about being the salt of the earth? What stories have you made up about who you are? And can you leave them behind in favor of your own saltiness?
